Welcome to the 2018 - 2019 Mathematics Team!

What is the Mathematics Team?

Welcome to the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics National Honor Society, also known as the Math Team. Mr. Boucher and Mr. Preston are your Math Team coaches for the 2018 - 2019 school year. What is the Mathematics Team? The Mathematics Team is for those students who love mathematics and enjoy friendly competitions. Each day we meet, typically on Wednesdays, we work on practice tests from previous years to enahnce our mathematical skills before competitions. Any student interested in joining the Mathematics Team, you need to meet the following requirements:
  • Maintain a "C" average in all classes throughout the year.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Have a love for the field of mathematics.
  • Want to compete in friendly competitions.
If this sounds like you, then you should join! We will meet every Wednesday right after school from 1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. in Room #1216. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. We will attend about 2 - 4 competitions throughout the school year. Most competitions will be on Saturdays. As a member, you will be inducted into the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society. You will receive a certificate of enrollment and other cool perks along the way.
On this website, you will find information regarding any event, comeptitions, practice tests, or any other important information. This page will be updated on a regular basis or as needed, so please check it regularly. I look forward to seeing everyone for a challenging mathematical year!

How Do Competitions Work?

Most competitions in the state of Florida are very similar as far as the process is concerned. There are two different types of competitions: (1) individual and (2) team. In order to participate in a team competition, there must be a minimum of four students in the same subject competing. The possible subjects students can compete in are as follows:
  1. Algebra I
  2. Algebra II
  3. Geometry
  4. Pre-Calculus
  5. Calculus I
  6. Calculus II
  7. Statistics
The rules state that each competitor must compete in the subject that he or she is enrolled in during that particular year. For example, if you are taking Algebra II this year, then you would compete in the Algebra II competition. You cannot compete in a course that you already completed or plan on completing before you graduate high school.

Competition Practice Tests

Below you will find files of previous years tests. Simply, find the subject you are competing in and download any of the practice tests provided. If there is an answer key for that particular test, it is also provided next to the test file. If you should have any questions about the Mathematics Team, competitions, or anything, please contact either Mr. Boucher via e-mail at [email protected] or Mr. Preston at [email protected]
