ARTS |

|
*Lehigh Senior High School Center for the
Arts Concert Band participated in the
Florida Bandmasters Associations District
Concert Music Performance Assessment. The
Center for the Arts Concert Band received
three “excellent “ratings on stage, a
“superior” rating in sight reading and 12th
grader, Ms. Rebecca Weinlauf, received a
“superior” rating as student conductor. The
Concert Band is directed by Jay Parales.

Band participated in the Florida Band
Association Competition. 16 students
received a rating of "Superior" and 2
students received a rating of "Excellent".

*Amber Reynolds from
Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts was
awarded 3rd place at the Art Festival. Amber
received $100.00 award for her mosaic desk. The
mosaic will be on display at the SW Florida Fair.

*The
Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts Dance Department recently offered a series of ballet classes geared towards practicing
dance students who wish to improve their knowledge of basic skills and
technique. These classes, taught by local dance instructor Jennifer
Reed were held at Lehigh Senior High School on Saturday March 21st
and Saturday March 28th

*Lehigh
Senior High School’s National Art Honor
Society and Art Club worked three
weekends in March to help the Children’s
Advocacy Center move into its new facility
on Evans Avenue. The center is leaving its
old, cramped quarters on Broadway Avenue and
is taking over the Richard Milburn Academy
building. The LSHS art students are
painting seascape murals on several walls in
the center. The murals will create a
soothing and welcoming atmosphere for
children in abusive or difficult situations
served by the center.

|
|
*Lehigh Senior High School Center for the
Arts JROTC program competed in the Florida
Gulf Coast Drill Meet on Saturday, January
31, 2009. The Lehigh Senior Cadets won 7
trophies in the 11 events they entered. |
*Ruben Guzman has been awarded a four Army
ROTC scholarship to attend Embry-Riddle
University. This scholarship pays for 100%
tuition, room and board, $950 per semester
in books and a monthly stipend averaging
$400 a month. Total value of this
scholarship is approximately $165,000 for
the four years. |

*Lehigh Senior High School Center for the
Arts 10th grade student Tia Smart
was selected as the Student Government
Association’s District IV state treasurer.
There are thirteen schools in District IV
from all over the state. This is the first
time in the history of the program that
Lehigh Senior High School has had an officer
at the state level.

*Lehigh Senior High School
Math teacher, Mr. Terry Huge, has been
awarded "Teacher of the Year" for all of Lee
County. CONGRATULATIONS Mr. Huge and
GREAT JOB!

*Lehigh
Senior High School Center for the Arts
student, Ismaelle Delice won first place in
the Poster/Project Division of the Lee
County Foreign Language Fair. Ismaelle was
the winner with her interpretation of the
theme “many hands, many voices, one world”.
Lehigh Senior High School teacher, Marianne
Maresca was “very proud of the student’s
talent levels and quality of presentations”.

national scores in the U.S. Treasury's Fall
2008 National Financial Literacy Challenge.

*Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts
scholar-athlete Sharod Morse was selected to
participate in the Southwest Florida Association
Basketball Coaches (SFABC) All-Star game. Sharod is
a senior at Lehigh Senior High School.

*Lehigh
took 3rd place in the Cape Coral Early Bird
Tournament. Beating North Fort Myers 8-6. The team was
led by Tim Nelson, Shane Maree, Rich Whiteleather, and
Manny Vidal.

Senior High School Center for the Arts girls
basketball coach, Eric Washington, was
selected to coach the Senior All-Star game.
|
*Erwin Wells and China Alexandre qualified
for the Track & Field 3A State
Championships. China was able to
qualify 4th in the 300 hurdles while Erwin
Wells won the Shot Put event. Both will be
competing at Winter Park High school in the
3A State Championships on May 8th.
Erwin also placed 5th (top 4 advance) in the
Discus with a PR of 141'. |
